Change your habits .. not the climate
Begin with yourself

We all know about the climate change, but, for those who don't know, it is simply a change in everything we used to see, to eat, to breathe and to live. Unfortunately, it is scientifically proved that man is one of the most important causes that led to this global phenomenon by his non-environmental habits. But, still we can change these bad habits with better ones and save our planet.

Here are some simple green habits that would help facing the climate change:

1- Use a highly efficient fridge which consumes less energy.
2- Eat fresh and organic foods, which help the local economy and reduce the energy use and greenhouse gases emissions.
3- Use bikes as a means of transportation, walk or have a lift from a neighbor or a friend, this helps reducing the climate change and emissions caused by car engines.
4- Buy eco-friendly and recycled products such as organic cotton, it is more sustainable to use products that are natural and not made from petrochemicals and synthetic chemicals.
5- Don't wash laundry everyday to save electricity and water as well as extending the life cycle of my washing machine.
6- Use trash bags made of paper or cloth, because those made of plastic take many years to be degraded and recycled, in addition that getting rid of them by burning, emits contaminated gases.
7- Remove the charger once the battery is full, this no doubt saves energy.
8- Don't use incandescent light bulbs, instead use saving bulbs as they save energy five times than any other type and switch off the lights when they are not in use.

It is worth mentioning that me and my sister - Marwa Abdel Fattah - has participated in Green Shots Award 2010 promoted by the Regional Activity Centre for Cleaner Production. We wrote a short story includes the prementioned ideas about changing our habits. And they converted it into an animated video. The story is entitled "My Eco-friendly day", it is about how to live everyday in an environmental way, not only for the sake of the environment and earth planet, but also for protecting our health and saving our money.

You might think that it is a very strict way of living, but no it is not, when you imagine a day in which there isn't water, electricity, healthy food and there are only incurable diseases. If we all commit to such simple tips, we will lead a healthier life with  a cleaner environment and deter the climate change.
